Casa S. Miguel

In the village of S. Miguel there is a place where the past keeps tradition alive, a tradition which goes beyond century-old walls. Here began, after the restoration of the Casa de S. Miguel, a rural tourism accommodation that conciliates both tradition and the values of ancestors evoked all over the house, and modern comfort.

In this small village located in the parish of S. Cosme part of the municipality of Gondomar, you can hear the surviving echoes of the men who have worked the fields to gather their unequalled farming goods, and to overflow the of good tart wine  that, according to tradition, is capable of warning the body in the winter and quenching the thirst in the dry summertime.

It is known as Oporto´s “ vegetable-garden” for the excellence of its vegetables such as the turnips of S. Cosme, the spring greens, the cabbage and the peas, which have always arrived early at the markets of Oporto, once carried by carts and nowadays carried by trucks to the supply market of central Oporto.

The village is classified by Gondomar´s Municipal Director Plan as an architectonic site of local interest to be preserved, formed by contiguous houses or separated by narrow lanes, which dates back to the XVI or XVII century, mainly restored since the XVIII century.

In  the whole, the Casa de S. Miguel has eight doble rooms all equipped with private bathroom and central heating . Three of the bedrooms are part of suite with living room and kitchen.

The house has also  a family museum with  a wine cellar and different areas where you can recall the way the land was toiled, how the linen was weaved  and seethe delicate trousseaus and clothing of our ancestors.

In the lawn, the slide, the swings and the water steams guarantee a happy gathering between people of all ages.

In a quit environment, where people still till the ground, you can escape in outdoor walks by foot or BTT.
